Art Forum East German Gallery (KOG)
Outstanding museum of modern art in the region between Munich and Nuremberg.
As the largest art museum in Eastern Bavaria, the KOG specializes in art from the 19th century to the present day. The focus is on the work of visual artists who have a biographical or thematic connection to the historical German settlement areas in Central and Southeastern Europe. Within the German museum landscape, the KOG is the only institution that illuminates the history of art from the Romantic period to the present from this perspective.
The exhibition collection provides an insight into the unique collection with artists such as Käthe Kollwitz, Lovis Corinth, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, Otto Dix and Gerhard Richter. Three to four special exhibitions a year are devoted to changing focal points that span the range between the KOG's mission of remembrance and its function as a place for dialogue on current issues.
The museum is housed in an ensemble of buildings in the city park on the western edge of Regensburg's old town. The Art Nouveau building from 1910, which was supplemented in the 1970s by a generously proportioned extension, offers a total of 2,000 square meters of exhibition space. Czech artist Magdalena Jetelová's 2006 installation "Venceremos/Sale" with its four red columns dominates the museum's entrance portal.
