Cathedral treasure museum

The museum, located in the historical rooms of the former episcopal residence, displays treasury pieces from the Middle Ages and modern times.

The cathedral treasury holds valuable regalia with the finest gold embroidery. Precious crucifixes, monstrances, chalices and bishop's crooks testify to Regensburg's position as an outstanding center of the goldsmith's art until the 18th century. Particularly worth seeing: the famous enamel box, probably made around 1400 in one of the workshops of the French princely courts, with 11,000 melted gold stars and fantastic mythical animals painted in enamel, as well as the butterfly reliquary, unique in the world, made around 1310/20 in Paris.
