City on the river - Regensburg and the Danube
Regensburg and the Danube - they belonged together from the very beginning. Because of its location on the river, the city was founded by the Romans as a military base, and it has lived from the river for centuries: merchants, boatmen and fishermen shaped the picture. A variety of tales have survived to this day. People traveled downstream on the Danube to distant lands. But "abroad" was also the opposite bank. There lay Stadtamhof, an independent and, for the people of Regensburg, foreign town. "You don't get married across the Danube!" was the saying. Today, of course, it is quite different...

Regensburger Brunnen

All wet or what?! - Water in the city. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow.
Clean water of the best quality and available everywhere in the city at all times - we take this for granted today, but it wasn't always like this. On this refreshingly different tour, immerse yourself in the very different meanings of water in the city in the past and today. History doesn't have to be dry! Water was not only used for drinking, cooking, washing and extinguishing fires: magnificent fountains were used for representation, mills were operated in the Danube and floods shaped the city.
We also try to take a look into the future: Is the water now regularly up to our necks? Or will we soon have to count every drop? How can the city be cooled down in times of climate change?
